Dr. Simón Barquera is Director of the Center for Nutrition and Health Research at Mexico's National Institute of Public Health (INSP) and President of the World Obesity Federation (2024–2026). A physician with a Master's and PhD in Nutrition Epidemiology from Tufts University, his research focuses on obesity prevention, nutrition policy and chronic disease. Dr. Barquera has played a leading role in the development and evaluation of landmark public health policies in Mexico, including sugar-sweetened beverage taxation, front-of-pack food warning labels and healthy dietary guidelines. He has authored more than 330 scientific publications and is internationally recognised for advancing evidence-based nutrition policy.
