Mark Morrison is Professor and Chair of Microbial Biology and Metagenomics at the University of Queensland Frazer Institute. He has focussed on the study of the gut microbiota from humans and other animals for his entire career, from PhD and faculty positions in the USA, then as a CSRIO Science Leader, before moving to University of Queensland. He now serves as the science lead for gastrointestinal function with the Princess Alexandra Hospital Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and he also holds an Honorary Professorship with the University of Melbourne’s Department of Medicine. He is Australia’s representative to the International Human Microbiome Consortium and was elected a Fellow of the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2022.
